A solid, well-built Long-EZ, certified for VFR, IFR & night flight. Dick Rutan inspected this aircraft and rated the workmanship as excellent, a 9.5 out of 10 (see his full report). Don’t let the unique design fool you; the plane is easier to fly VFR or IFR than a Piper Cherokee. Passenger seat is very comfortable, my Dad is 6’1” and 230 lbs and enjoys the rear seat, has a control stick and push-to-talk button. The gear design is outstanding, absorbs landings better than struts. All work has been performed by licensed A&P mechanics and avionics professionals. Empty weight is 1035 lbs, not a thin Long-EZ but average according to Central States Association listings (canard pilot/owner association) and EZJet folks. Gross weight is 2000 lbs, useful load  964 lbs., with full fuel payload is 652 lbs. (see weight and balance sheet for details). Amble storage in the strakes and behind passenger seat, accommodating 2 medium size duffle bags without a problem. Performance during a recent flight showed a climb out of  125 kts, 2,000+ VSI, cruise at 6,000 MSL, 67 F, pilot (185 lbs) and 30 gal. fuel, 2600 RPM, CAS 141 kts, TAS 160 kts, burning 6.6 GPH. With these numbers and full fuel (52 gallons) N160RG could remain airborne for 7.1 hours with 45 min. reserve, achieving a range of 1140 nm. N160RG can go non-stop from Chicago to Boston, New Orleans, Orlando, New York Miami, El Paso or even Key West! The major drawback in flying a canard aircraft is the time spent answering questions when you land.

The engine is running strong, with compressions all in the upper 70s, oil lab analysis good, oil usage low, oil filter clean, and starts on a dime (mixture rich, advanced throttle x2, then engage starter). It had a thorough top over-haul with new cylinders and complete inspection of the "lower half." As airplane mechanic expert Mike Busch attests, don't be fooled by TBO, many engines will run hundreds of hours beyond time, others have problems the first hours after an overhaul, see his webinars for more info: Savvy Aviator. Maintenance and inspections performed by canard experts at EZJets (http://www.ezjetinc.com). Complete overhaul of panel and avionics (April 2009) by professional FAA avionics shop, Wings Avionics (www.wingsavionics.com). Everything works in this "turn key" airplane. If it doesn't, I get it repaired or replaced by professional shops. I'm enjoying "Old Blue" so the times change. Very reluctantly selling to return to a 4-place aircraft.

Current times (as of 7/6/2013):  Hobbs 1172.0, TTSN 1457.9, SMOH 1457.9, STOH 401.7
